Leedy and Ludwig Salesman Parade Drum

Leedy & Ludwig made these drums for their salesmen to take to dealers as sample models, showcasing the different finishes the company offered. These salesman drums were most commonly built as parade drums, though snare drums and full drum sets occasionally appear as well.

This particular drum features seven finishes, with sparkling gold appearing twice, and includes all the same appointments found on their parade drums. It’s a truly unique piece, and I’m thrilled to have it in my collection.

Here is a write up from the 1953 Leedy & Ludwig Catelog.

Parade Drummers who have used "National" model drums, in either band or drum corps activities, will consider playing no other. They have found them to be the very pinnacle of perfection for every kind of parade work. The Floating Heads on the snare and tenor drums are an exclusive Leedy & Ludwig creation. This wonderful feature is outlined in detail at the bottom of this page at left — be sure to read it. The same high quality of materials, finish and workmanship are as outstanding in these models as in our "Broadway" concert and dance drums. Yes, the "National" models are drums that inspire drummers to "pitch in" and do a better job because they have realistic drum tones - they are easy to play upon - they have snap and volume galore - they are mechanically correct and have a "classy" appearance.
